Reconstructing Dandi March

The exhibition showcases drawings of Chhaganlal Jadav, along with prestigious collection of NGMA on the theme of ‘Dandi Yatra’

To propogate Gandhi Ji's message of peace and celebrate his 150 birth anniversary, The National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi, Ministry of Culture, Government of India is organising an exhibition entitled 'Dandhi Yatra'. The art show was inaugurated on December 29, at 5:00 pm.

This exhibition showcases unseen drawings of artist Chhaganlal Jadav and also the master works of contemporaneous artists (from NGMA's collection) to Gandhi ji like Nandlal Bose, Upendra Maharathi and Ram kinkar Baij, and others.

The 390 km-long historical journey undertaken against the unjust law of a high tax on salt, was led by Gandhiji along with 78 Satyagrahis, on March 12, 1930, and had continued till April 6,1930. This great march, is remembered presently, as the most vital among the various movements of the freedom struggle.

This journey was also witnessed by many artist-participants and media persons from across the world, who had recorded and documented this iconic happening.

One such Satyagrahi and volunteer of Gandhiji's Salt March was Chhaganlal Jadav who, as part of this yatra throughout, had drawn and sketched scenes and images of fellow participants of this mass movement.

"As Director of the National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA), I am delighted to present this exhibition entitled 'Dandi Yatra' to mark the year-long celebration of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi – the father of nation," Ritu Sharma, Director, NGMA Delhi.

"The current exhibition showcases the drawings of Chhaganlal Jadav, along with the prestigious collection of the NGMA on the theme of Dandi Yatra," she informed.
