Music connoisseurs to grace SaMaPa 2018
SaMaPa (Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts) is going to host the 14th edition of one of the most acclaimed five-day cultural evening of the country - 'SaMaPa Sangeet Sammelan 2018' in the capital from November 21-25. On the first two days, November 21 and 22, the event will take place at the Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre and for the rest of the days the venue is Kamani Auditorium. The festival would be graced by various national and international dignitaries and critics and friends from art and culture fraternity to celebrate the journey of music connoisseurs and artists from all across the globe.
This year the festival would feature around 75 musicians of different age groups from different parts of the country. The festival will present a number of musicians who are promising legend to be in the years to come like Partha Bose (Sitar), Rupak Kulkarni (Flute), Jayateerth Mevundi (Vocal), Shrinivas Joshi, Son of late Pandit Bhimsen Joshi (Vocal) Zunain Halim Khan, Son of Late Ustad Abdul Halim Jaffer Khan (Sitar), Sandipan Samajpati (Vocal), Asghar Husain (Violin), Sarathi Chatterjee (Vocal) and senior artists like Sumitra Guha (Vocal).
The main highlight of the festival will be the Santoor recital by the great music legend Pandit Bhajan Sopori accompanied by the tabla legend Pandit Kumar Bose, who will be performing together in Delhi after almost a decade.
The young Santoor Maestro and Composer Abhay Rustum Sopori will conclude the festival this year with his Santoor recital presenting some unique compositions of his 300-year-old legacy.
This year SaMaPa presents the theme "Triveni", a musical confluence of Ganga, Yamuna and Saraswati Rivers. The festival is also a gateway for young talented musicians to present their art and talent and share a common platform with the senior and legendary musicians of the country.
SaMaPa believes that different art forms are correlated and as part of the festival a Painting Exhibition of around 50 paintings from the State of Jammu and Kashmir is also presented at Kamani Auditorium during the festival.
