'Ignorance is bliss'

Anveshi Jain’s response to controversies surrounding her character in Gandi Baat 2

The steamy scenes from ALT Balaji's Gandi Baat 2 made Anveshi Jain an internet sensation overnight. Her bold and sensuous performance in the web series won her the tag of 'Most Googled Woman', which in turn gave a major lift to her career.

But all good things come with a price. Though Anveshi looks happy with the popularity and love coming her way, the insensitive trolling and harsh criticism can become a stumbling block for her. In an exclusive interview, the actress talks about her reaction to such trolls and to what extent it affects her:

Your performance In Gandi Baat 2 was appreciated as much as it was criticised by a section of people, who in fact created controversies. Does that bother you?

No, it doesn't bother me at all. I have always believed that 'Ignorance is Bliss' and I am only getting better at it. I am appreciating all the positive things happening in my life...there is so much to be grateful for. Such things are way too small to sweat about as I know what I did and where I am headed.

Do you believe that Indian society has become more accepting of sexual fluidity?

Absolutely they have. With the constant exposure to international content, with easy accessibility to the net, and technology making the sharing of information and content easy, it was something that was bound to happen. Plus, the millennials as a generation are also maturing a lot faster and early. Social media connectivity helps in the collective consciousness, which questions social mores a lot more vociferously. We don't seem to have a myopic moribund approach to sex and it's expression on celluloid anymore. It doesn't shock us or make us curious, we are fairly casual about it. Having said that, portrayal of sex to shock and awe won't work anymore either, it has to be a part of a coherent narrative for it to work.

Was Gandi Baat 2 the turning point in your career? How did things change after the success of that web show?

Yes, No matter how much I would want to deflect the reality but it surely became a turning point in my life. Before 'Gandi Baat', I was video blogging about human behaviours and dating advice but none of that gave such boost to my career.

After the success of 'Gandi Baat', life has become easier in terms of work projects. I am getting the kind of work that I always wanted to do. I am busy doing travelling and hospitality shows, movies and web projects.

You have signed a Gujarati and Kannada movie. Do you think it would be a good decision to step into films when you are doing extremely good on web platform?

Why not? As an actor I feel so privileged and lucky to have the opportunity to express myself through all mediums. For me, what eventually matters is the content and storytelling, and the fact that I am straddling two totally different cinematic diaspora just excites me further. In fact, I wait for the day when I can do multi lingual projects so that I reach out to newer audiences every time. I want to do good work, whatever be the medium.

What are the other projects in the line?

You are going to see me next in ALT Balaji's 'Boss- Baap of Special Services'. Post that I will be doing four more projects including a Gujarati movie, a Zee 5 show, and a web series with Rajpal Yadav and Vijay Raj, but I can't reveal much details about it.
