Curtains down, Boi Mela receives enormous response

Like previous years, Bengal Association successfully organised 18th Boi Mela and Literary function from April 17-21, 2019 at Grih Kalyan Kendra, New Delhi premises.

The aim was to create children's interest in Bangla language, literature, and culture. The effort was not only to encourage book reading habit amongst Delhi NCR populace.

Renowned literary personality Selina Hossain of Bangladesh inaugurated the Boi Mela and Banga Sanskriti Utsav. Illustrated literary personality Bithi Chattopadhyay from Kolkata along with Sanjib Sanyal Principal Economic Advisor Government of India, Dr Tushar Roy, and others graced the function.

Boi Mela issue of the quarterly literary magazine Digangan, published by Bengal Association was released by the dignitaries. Renowned literary personality of Bengal, Amar Mitra graced the Valedictory function.

During five days of the festival, renowned literary personalities participated in various literary discussions. Syed Muazzam Ali, High Commissioner of Bangladesh and many other dignitaries visited the Boi Mela.

Eminent literary personalities such as Nalini Bera, Bhagirath Mishra, Nitish Biswas, Tapan Bandyopadhyay, Sabyasachi Deb, Samgragyi Bandyopadhyay, Shouv Chattopadhyay, Sandipan Chakraborty, Sayed Hasmat Jalal, and many others participated.

The 18th Boi Mela (Book Fair) being a multi-day event focused not only on selling books to the public but also interaction with industry professionals. The Boi Mela organised by Bengal Association continues to grow and it is a great place to meet buyers from every corner of the country. The Boi Mela attracted thousands of book lovers of all ages.

During 18th Boi Mela, more than seventy book publishers and booksellers from Kolkata, Bangladesh, Tripura, and Delhi NCR participated. Mela was attended by more than 30,000 book lovers. Renowned publishing houses such as Niyogi Books, Dey's Publishing, Ananda Publishers, Patra Bharati, Srishtisukh and others catered to the literary thirst of the Bengalis away from home. Cultural programmes were organised in the evening including Meet the Author, Seminar and Debate, quiz, etc.

On the last day of this Mela, General Secretary Tapan Sengupta thanked all the participants, sponsors, advertisers and well-wishers for the success of this event.
