A man in Greater Noida tried to marry off his minor daughter to a handicapped person for Rs eight lakh. He had accepted an advance of Rs three lakh for arranging the marriage.
However, the plan went awry when the girl, a student of class IX, brought the matter to the notice of her grandfather, who raised the issue with senior officers of the district.
In a written complaint to district magistrate of Gautam Buddh Nagar Hiralal Gupta on Tuesday, Phire Singh, the grandfather of the girl demanded immediate action and alleged that local police refused to register the complaint.
The family resides in village Sahni and the groom was arranged by the girl's maternal uncle Satpal who resides in Greater Noida Phase-I area. The parents of the girl initially refused the proposal as the groom was handicapped but agreed to the marriage after a cash offer of Rs eight lakh was made.
