Father of Green Revolution in India conducts lecture

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) organised a public lecture on 'Food Security in an era of climate change', by Professor MS Swaminathan, the architect of the Green Revolution in India, on Thursday. He focused on the various dimensions of food security and genesis of the Green Revolution. He also highlighted the importance of increasing food grain production against the backdrop of the National Food Security Bill and changing climate. One of the key themes of the lecture was how climate change will affect all critical dimensions of food security, which are, food availability, accessibility, utilisation and food systems stability.
Ending the lecture on a positive and optimistic note he urged all attendees to make the world a better place for the present and future generations. Providing an intellectual tool kit of sorts for the participants, he articulated various strategies to mitigate and adapt in the face of climate change.
He also elaborated on the significance of sustainable agriculture in this era of climate change.
The function concluded with the release of the book 'Evergreen Revolution in Agriculture: Pathway to a Green Economy', authored by Professor PC Kesavan and Professor MS Swaminathan.
