However, the girl’s family has alleged that her father Prakash Chand, who was riding a motorbike to reach Greater Noida, was bumped off by people involved in her murder.
The police claimed that they probed the case from all possible angles, but have failed to make a breakthrough. The police said the incident took place on Friday morning when Chand, along with his neighbour Bhurelal, were headed towards Greater Noida via the Yamuna Expressway. A speeding vehicle hit their motorbike on the stretch. As a result, both the victims were thrown more than 10 metre away. Passers-by informed the police, who admitted both Chand and Bhurelal to the Kailash Hospital. According to the police, Chand (45) succumbed to his injuries, while Bhurelal’s condition is stated to be critical.
Chand’s family has termed his death as a cold-blooded murder and alleged that the police are trying to pass it off as an accident. Accusing the village head Rohit and seven others of having a hand in Chand’s murder, his family have lodged a complaint against them at the Jewar police station.
“It is not an accident case, but a planned murder. The accused, involved in the girl’s killing, are trying to project it as an accident. The police are also being pressurized by the accused, who are musclemen in the area,” said Rinku, Chand’s son.
The girl was allegedly set ablaze by four persons on May 9. She was taken to a city hospital, which referred her to a Delhi hospital, where she succumbed to burn injuries. Following the incident, the police had arrested three persons - Lokendra, Pradip and Sonu. The fourth accused was Lokendra’s wife Archana, who is at large.
According to the police, the accused tried to gang-rape the victim. When she protested, they allegedly set her ablaze. The victim’s family had alleged that accused had made an obscene MMS, featuring her. They used it to blackmail and sexually assault her. Besides, they allegedly used the MMS clip to extort money from the victim, a Class X student. She had paid Rs 5,000 to them twice, her family said.
