Father accused of molesting girl

Even as the news of the gruesome gangrape and murder of a 23-year-old paramedical student lingers on, a seven-year-old girl was allegedly molested by her father in north Delhi’s Burari area. He was caught red-handed by his wife.

The incident took place on 3 January. According to police, the victim lives with her parents in Burari. Prima facie it appears that the relations between the accused, Henry Thomas, 42, and his wife, were strained and  they were not living together for the last one year. His wife has already applied for divorce from Thomas, who is unemployed.

‘Thomas found his daughter alone in the house and molested her,’ said a police official. ‘The complainant, mother of the girl, said Thomas stripped the girl, made her stand next to him and was misbehaving with his own daughter by when she arrived and caught him red-handed,’ said a police officer. She immediately raised an alarm and approached the police.

‘A case under section 377 (unnatural offences) of Indian Penal Code and section 4/8 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), has been registered, based on the statement of the mother of the victim at Burari police station,’ said Sidhu Pillai, Deputy Commissioner of Police (North). The accused has been arrested and further investigation is on.
