Soft-tinted pastels and nature inspired neutral shades teamed with comfy silhouettes are the trends in fashion and make up for this summer season — a throwback to the style of the 1970s, say industry experts. “Box type tees and tops in women’s western wear are trending this season. In ethnic wear, flax fabric in white and light colours, indigo collection, leggings in bamboo fabric are hotshots. Neon colour lingerie are also on demand,” says Seema Varma, creative vice-president of fashion portal fashionara.com.
From military or khaki to oversized; from romantic lace to gingham checks and sultry sheers - they all aid in making the legs appear longer and even out mid-sections, while seamlessly taking one into the scorching season.
“Fashion has come to a full circle this summer with trends of the 1970s making a big comeback on the runway. Boyfriend denims, fringe, suede, crop tops, polo necks, chokers, palazzos, jumpsuits, midi-lengths, tote bags, moccasins, platform heels are all in,” Praveen Sinha, MD and founder of Jabong said.
The bohemian trend, which has a carefree and romantic aura with flowy, dreamy, soft silhouettes, pretty prints and small detailing, is also back with a bang. Cooler and softer side of the colour spectrum with an eclectic mix of understated brights, pale pastels and nature-like neutrals thrown in with a bit of retro delight, folkloric, floral art and tropical landscapes restores a sense of well-being.
Moving on to makeup, experts suggest fresh faces and statement lips with unkempt bold brows as the no makeup trend continues to reign this season too. However, a lot of textures and matte finishes and pastel shades like lavender, lilac, aubergine and the season’s new Marsala. “Marsala is a matte deep brick red colour which is lighter than red but darker than pink. It is the best suited colour for Indian skin.
The make-up this season is more about balancing with dark eye-shadow nude lips are in style and with loud lips no eye-shadow is in vogue,” says Taneja, a Guinness World record holder and expert on beauty. With the mercury rising, the day-to-day beauty routine too requires modification. With all the heat and sweat, the last thing one needs is to worry, says Taneja, is about blotchy makeup and smudged kajal, which accentuates dark circles and that makes the eyes look tired.
“Graphic eyeliners are the hot sellers this season, you can wear it anywhere from college to office to party to weddings. Cobalt blues, emerald greens and other such colours defines the shape of your eyes and makes them appear bold,” says Taneja.
Delhi-based makeup artist Shweta Sachani, on the other hand, emphasises upon the importance of taking care of one’s skin during summer.
“It is very important to take care of your skin. SPF is a must. While removing makeup, use a good oil-based makeup remover to cleanse your skin and use a non-alcohol toner. This will keep your skin balanced,” says Sachani.
