Farmers get up on a water tank to press for demands

Some local farmer leaders did a ‘Sholay act’ on Tuesday to press for their demands of making Yamuna Expressway toll-free for farmers and higher compensation for their land, among others. Last reported, they are still perched on a water tank.The agitated farmers, reportedly affiliated to a regional political party, reached the Jewar tehsil office of Greater Noida early on Tuesday morning. Bhupender Chowdhury, along with his four companions, then got up on the water tank installed in the premises of the office. ‘I was informed around 9 am about the incident and have been on the spot since then. We are trying to convince them to come down,’ said Rajkumar Mishra, Deputy Superintendent of Police [DSP], Jewar.

‘We are also in contact with local leaders to convince them to come down,’ added Mishra. Farmers in various villages in Greater Noida are up in arms against the administration and have been protesting regularly for the last several months.
