Family of Kumbh Mela stampede vicims allege govt apathy

The family of those who lost their lives in Kumbh stampede alleges that administration, government and railways did not provide them with any assistance.

A family member of the deceased Babita Gupta, 38, said, ‘The family had to arrange for the ambulance on their own and no aid was offered to them. Not even ambulance was provided to us to bring back the dead body from Allahabad.’

Three children and husband survive Babita Gupta. Babita was a resident of Guru Ram Dass Nagar in Lakshmi Nagar. Gupta has two daughters. She went along with 20 members of her extended family. Brother of Babita, Rajesh also suffered injuries.

She hails from a middle class family. When asked about the incident, the kin said, ‘We do not know how about the entire incident, but what has happened, has left the family in pieces’.

The family members of other deceased Ram Duli, 48, a resident of Shalimar Gaun visited Allahabad Kumbh with her husband. Middle class family survived by husband, two sons and 2 daughter-in-laws.

When approached, the body was on its way to home in Delhi.
