Pilgrims to Vaishno Devi nabbed two fake ticket checkers, who were extorting additional fare from their fellow passengers in a Delhi bound train. The accused were found taking undue advantage of the recent 14.2 percent hike in railway fares. The impostors later admitted to police that they extorted money from passengers in long distance trains mainly from Vaishno Devi and Amarnath pilgrims, since the fare hike came into effect.
They were caught on the Udhampur - Kota weekly special train, at the Tughlakabad Railway Sation in Delhi on Friday. They were first beaten up by the pilgrims and later handed over to police. The imposters, Gautam Tamboli (25) and Lalit Kumar (25), both hailing from Rajasthan, have been arrested by the Delhi police unit at Tughlakabad Station on charges of fraud. The amount of money they made hasn’t been estimated by the cops yet, said a police official.
‘But they have admitted to no theft, as reported by many of the passengers. The theft might have happened during mid-night, by unidentified men boarding the compartments,’ said the official. They have been booked under the relevant sections and they will be sent to the Tihar jail on Saturday’, he added.
‘When the accused were found in one of the compartments, they were asked to produce their identity cards, which they couldn’t produce. We caught them right there and handed them to the Police at Tughlakabad Station in Delhi’, said one of the pilgrims.
