Fake degree: Big fish in police net; Tomar’s custody extended

If sources are to be believed, Chauhan is a big fish trapped in the police’s net. He is the owner of three schools in the national Capital and has good contacts in the education sector. “He has provided fake B.Sc degree of Awadh University at Faizabad. While Tomar was intensively quizzed, the name of Chauhan cropped and raids were conducted to trace his whereabouts. Chauhan was detained late on Thursday and is being interrogated. So far he has not confessed his involvement in the fake degree spree,” a police official privy to <g data-gr-id="74">investigation</g> said.

On Friday, the court extended Tomar’s custody only after Delhi Police told the court about the detention of Chauhan. Delhi Police also told the court that in order to get more information on Tomar’s fake degree, both of them –Tomar and Chauhan are needed to be quizzed face-to-face. Metropolitan Magistrate Navjeet Budhiraja allowed Delhi Police to quiz 49-year-old Tomar, arrested on June 9, till June 21 when he will be produced in the court.

Interestingly, when Tomar was produced in the court he looked annoyed. Expressing his feelings to the Metropolitan <g data-gr-id="51">Magistrate</g> he asked the court to provide police custody for more days. “Sir, Please extended my police custody for maximum days so that Delhi Police can satisfy themselves in terms of <g data-gr-id="50">investigation</g>. Seeking custody for lesser days is only wasting court’s time. It only helps the reports to fill pages by filing fabricated stories related to me,” Tomar told the court in an annoyed tone.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police failed to trace the whereabouts of Indu Gupta, owner of New Universal Institute in Rohini. It was <g data-gr-id="48">learnt</g> that Tomar procured the fake law degree from her and Gupta is one of the <g data-gr-id="45">kingpin</g> who provides fake degrees to the vulnerable candidates by charging high fees.

It is important to mention that <g data-gr-id="40">Gutpa</g> doesn’t have contacts with the universities or the affiliated institutes, but she has fake stamps, forged signatures and some details about the enrollment series of the respective courses.

“We are conducting raids to nab her. Also, the institute has been sealed and within few days if she could not be nabbed, we will break the locks of the institute.  Two policemen are already being deployed near the institute to keep a tab on the premises,” a senior police official said.
