Fake coins worth Rs 40K recovered, one arrested

The police have arrested a 42-year-old man and recovered fake Indian coins worth Rs 40,000 from a factory in an Outer Delhi area, where  the coins were allegedly being manufactured.

During a surprise vehicle checking near Shree Balaji Mandir in Rohini, the police stopped one Swift Dezire car and found two plastic bags, each containing 20 packets of counterfeit Indian coins worth Rs 40,000.

The police said the arrested man was identified as Naresh Kumar, a resident of Rohini. He allegedly introduced himself as an officer of Punjab National Bank. When the police asked for his Identity Card, he refused to show it.

On finding the counterfeit Indian currency coins, a case was registered and investigation was taken up, after which Kumar was arrested. 

He told the police that two persons—Sonu and Raju—were running a factory in the Bawana Industrial area, where counterfeit coins of Rs 5 and 10 were being minted.

During further interrogation, he revealed that he started a car accessories shop at Charkhi Dadri in Haryana after finishing his Class 12.

During the course of getting loose coins for the business, he came in contact Sonu and Raju, who used to deliver coins of Rs 5 and Rs 10 denomination at his shop.

After some time, both Raju and Sonu gave him a plan to supply counterfeit coins on a commission basis. He started supplying fake coins of the denomination of Rs 5 and 10 provided by Raju and Sonu. After some time Sonu and Raju wind up their business and fled.

He also disclosed that Sonu and Raju again started their business of minting counterfeit coins at Delhi and accordingly invited him to join the business.

“Further investigation is underway to trace the whereabouts of the remaining persons involved in this criminal activity,” police said.
