Fake bomb creates panic

A prank played by an unknown person, possibly a student, created major panic in a school in Delhi.

Mistaking a package placed on the boundary wall to be a bomb, the school authorities of Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan Mehta Vidyalaya, made a call to the police control room. But when the Bomb Disposal Sqaud arrived, they declared it as fake.

The call was made at 7.30 in the morning and it took around two hours for the Bomb Disposal Sqaud to identify that the bomb as fake. A letter was found near the fake bomb stating, 'Bomb in school-Taliban'. The matter was written in English and Urdu.

The incident had created a major panic among the school staff and students. And when the parents came to know about the incident via media, they gathered outside the school building. The incident also brought to light that the school had no security facilities, for which, according to the parents who had gathered outside, the school demanded a hefty fee. Not even CCTV cameras were available in the school premises.

'We are yet to identify the prankster. It can be anyone. Along with the fake bomb, an A4 size paper was recovered. Both the bomb and the letter was taken into custody,' a senior police officer said.
