Eyeing elections, South MCD announces freebies

South Delhi Municipal Corporation has begun its poll preparations for 2017 MCD polls. Announcing a multitude of projects as freebies, the South Corporation said that 100 LED wafer lights will be installed in every ward, passed a slew of parking projects and allocated Rs 50 lakh for road sensing. The Corporation is trying to re-establish its image by announcing a host of these projects.

During the House meet on Wednesday, South Delhi Municipal Corporation announced that 100 LED light will be installed in every ward. Officials said that every ward will be surveyed and accordingly the LED lights will be installed in the places required. “From now onwards, every councillor will get 100 LED lights for their wards. This will ensure that there are no dark areas within areas under the South Corporation. We will ensure that the residents do not have to face street light issues in their areas anymore,” said Subhash Arya, SDMC Mayor. Moreover, each and every park will be surveyed and LED lights will be installed according to the requirement.

The Corporation also announced Rs 50 lakh for road sensing. This will include road use patterns, road networks, security and CCTV. “Road sensing would also be done accordingly. This will ensure the repair of roads and drawing of patterns. The roads are a very important aspect of the Corporation’s work and we must ensure that the roads are good for the public to drive,” said an official.

Other than that, the Corporation also passed a host of parking projects including multi-level parking in Subhash Nagar, Rajouri Garden in West Zone. “Two parking projects will come up soon in the South Corporation areas. Both are multi-level parking projects,” said Arya.

Moreover, SDMC had lately announced replacement of two lakh street lights with LEDs, a move that will benefit the Corporation with Rs 100 crore. With this move, the Corporation won’t have to pay whopping electricity bills and will ensure energy conservation at the same time.
