The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) came up with a two-day ‘National workshop on Gender Sensitisation’ at Vigyan Bhawan, with an eye on the increasing rate of crimes again women in the national capital.
CISF director general Rajiv said, 'The idea behind the workshop was to find out the loopholes in the grievance redressal mechanism (especially sexual harassment at workplace) by direct interaction with women employees of CISF from all over the country at a single platform with an objective to streamline various procedures. This will also give an opportunity to find out the trends in gender sensitisation in the Force and the expectation of CISF women personnel so as to devise a mechanism to sensitise the Force,' he added.
Emminent actor and activist Shabana Azmi inaugurated the two-day workshop on Monday with National Women Commission chairperson, Mamta Sharma.
The two spoke of how, while travelling on the Delhi Metro, they came across women commuters who expressed that they feel safe and secure on the Metro because of the presence of a large number of CISF women staff.
'While addressing the participants they emphasised that policies are required to be drawn and implemented in letter and spirit to create conducive environment for girls and women,' an official said.
'Our society needs to redefine values to respect girls at homes. Parents need to ensure that daughters get equal opportunity and status as sons. Countries are recognised on the factor “Human Development Index”, we have to look into this aspect also,' said Azmi.
'CISF personnel are deployed across the length and breadth of the country and women officials might be transferred to any part of India. Special care has been taken by CISF to give them preferential treatment in the matter of posting, so as to give them an opportunity to look after their other commitments,' said a CISF official.
Director general of CISF has declared that 2013 will be observed as the year of ‘Safety and Security for Women’, in recognition of the immense contribution of women personnel in establishing CISF as a premier security agency and bringing laurels to the Force.
