Eye on polls, govt to give houses to poor

A poll-bound Delhi government is eager to woo  voters from the economically weaker sections with the distributions of houses to the urban poor under the Rajiv Ratna Awas Yojna.

The Delhi Cabinet on Thursday constituted a committee of secretaries to decide the modalities of allotment of flats to the urban poor under the Rajiv Ratna Awas Yojna.

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting presided by the Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit.

The Chief Minister also stated that applications had been invited from the urban poor under the Rajiv Ratna Awas Yojana for allotment of low cost flats in the capital.

Many applications were received and the city government has accelerated the pace of construction of EWS flats through the DSIIDC. Thousands of flats are ready for allotment, hence, the city government had decided to initiate allotment of low-cost houses to the eligible applicants.
