Ex-servant, his friend held for killing elderly woman, robbery

A day after a 70-year-old woman was killed at her residence and jewellery worth Rs 1 crore and cash of Rs 1.30 lakh were robbed, Delhi Police have arrested her former domestic help along with his friend. The cops have recovered the robbed valuables and the cash.

The accused have been identified as Anil Kumar Sharma (22), former domestic help and Krishna (28). At the time of the incident, the victim, Harmeer Kaur was alone at the residence in South-east Delhi’s Kalkaji area as her son and other family members were out to their jobs by 11 am on Monday.

At around 6.17 pm, the domestic help called the wife of Mandeep (victim’s son) that her mother was not responding the door bell. His wife immediately reached back home and found Kaur was lying on the floor in the lobby area and was in an unresponsive state. The house was found ransacked.

During investigation, Anil Kumar Sharma, who had worked in the house of the deceased lady and left the job around six month back, was seen roaming there. It raised the needle of suspicion towards him for commissioning the crime. 

After he was detained, it was revealed that he is a Tuberculosis patient and he was in need of urgent money for the marriage of his sister who is 19-years-old. So, he along with his friend Krishna, who resided in the same village, hatched a plan to rob the house of his previous employer.

“They also conducted recce of the house for 3-4 days before committing the crime. On Monday, Krishna entered the house of the deceased on the pretext of a courier boy and thereafter, Anil Kumar also entered the house. Then, both of them murdered her by smothering and ransacked the house of cash and jewellery and escaped,” the official said.
