Ex-Home Guard poses as constable, extorts money from autos, arrested

The easy availability of khaki uniform in Kingsway Camp has helped a 41-year-old man to pose as a fake constable. He has been arrested by the Delhi Police for extorting money from auto-rickshaws and commercial vehicles, by issuing them challans on the pretext of overloading or violating traffic rules.

The accused has been identified as Mukesh (41), a resident of Ghaziabad. On Monday, Head constable Rajpal and constable Mahabir were on patrol when they reached a bus stand in South Extension (Part-I). They noticed a person in  a khaki uniform having the name plate “Ct Mukesh”, despite this he had DT badges on his shoulders.

“The patrolling staff raised queries regarding his presence and and asked for his identity card but he could not reply and failed to show his identity card. He even tried to escape. The alert policemen overpowered him and after a formal search, one country-made pistol along with two live cartridges were recovered from his possession,” said Ishwar Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South).

During his interrogation, Mukesh disclosed that he had served in the Delhi Home Guards for about five years. In 2003, he was discharged and became unemployed. In order to earn a living, he planned to earn quick money by posing as  a constable of the Transport Department. He purchased a khaki uniform, a cap, and the name plate and badges of the DT (Delhi Transport) from Kingsway Camp, Delhi.
