A retired army officer’s daughter and two Nigerians were arrested on Wednesday for allegedly duping several young men across the country on the pretext of marriage. The accused would approach the victim on a matrimonial site and fix the marriage. Later, after gaining victim’s confidence, she would ask him for money to clear huge consignment of gold from the airport.
The trio was arrested when a Haryana youth approached Delhi Police after he was duped of Rs 22 lakh by them. They have been identified as Mark Eghe Ogunsede (34), Imafidon Petro Osamuyiemen (33) and Madhulika (26), daughter of a retired junior commissioned officer of Indian Army.
Madhulika worked as an important link between the victims and the kingpin. She hails from Uttarakhand, who was presently living in Govind Puri area of southeast Delhi.
The trio had opened several bank accounts using fake identity cards to receive money from the victims.
During investigation, it was learnt the girl would pose as a doctor of Indian origin serving in United Kingdom’s defence department. Her accomplices would assume the roles of Custom Border Protection Officer. She used to approach the targets and claimed that her parents have expired.
Once the victim was convinced into planning a married life with her, she would weave an entire story of visiting Afghanistan on an urgent official mission and seizing huge quantities of gold biscuits from there.
According to the complainant, she would later ask the victim to give money to clear the consignment of gold biscuits. Further investigations are underway, said a Delhi Police officer.
