Every district to have govt Ayurvedic hospital: Naik

Patients in the remote and rural areas will be treated by Ayurveda surgeons as <g data-gr-id="39">government</g> proposes such hospital with a cost of  Rs 50 crore each in initial the phase.

It is often noticed that people living in remote areas have to travel miles to avail better medical facilities in odd hours which results in mental harassment and loss of their savings. Also, incidents of denied admission to hospitals have become a regular practice which lead the patients to succumb to their illnesses. Keeping this in mind, the union cabinet is mulling over the proposal. Speaking to the Millennium Post, Union Ayush Minister Shripad Naik said, “Effective healthcare facilities to the people living in rural areas are one of the top priorities of the present government. Therefore, we have decided to set up state-of- the- art Ayurveda hospitals in every district.”

“Facilities like surgeries by the doctors of Ayurveda will be the rare feature of such hospitals. We are planning to amend the Health Bill, which will empower Ayurveda doctors to conduct surgeries. It is a big project and appointments of Ayurveda doctors will be made as per the rural population density,” he added.

On the context of initially expenses Naik said, “It will be around Rs 50 crore per <g data-gr-id="37">hospitals</g> but everything will <g data-gr-id="36">be depend</g> on states on how they are going to implement it in coordination with the  Centre.”

Naik’s initiative has been welcomed by the party leaders as well as doctors associated with Ayurveda, who feel that this will provide economical and better medical facilities for poor. According to a report by the United Nations, nearly 75% of the health infrastructure in India including doctors and specialists and other health resources is concentrated in urban areas where only 27% of India’s population lives.

The rural population of India is around 716 million people (72%) and yet there is a chronic lack of proper medical facilities for them. This is one of the reasons for the differences in urban and rural healthcare indicators.

Considering such facts, the government is serious over setting up these hospitals, which will not only be a boon for the people living in rural areas but also their skills will help in building the nation.
“They are skilled and have every right to stay healthy,” he said.
