Priyanka Chopra, who recently fuelled controversy when she claimed that she was ‘cornered’ in Bollywood and hence had to pursue new opportunities abroad, said that it is human nature to kick people when they’re down. The actor is currently promoting her new series, ‘Citadel’, which will be released on ‘Prime Video’ next week.

In an interview with a popular entertainment news agency, Priyanka was asked if her mother’s advice about self-respect comes in handy often. She said that it does: “When you know your merit and people don’t value that or when you want to achieve something and you don’t get it or when a film has failed, it’s what you do after failure, right? After failure, you have to find your value and that’s what my parents taught me.”

“When you fail, the world will kick you even harder, because that is the nature of human beings. Jo neeche hota hai, hum ussi ko kick karte hain. Jo chhota hota hai, ussi ko kick karte hain. But at that time when you’re at the bottom; when you’re alone, isolated and kicking, can you find your value at that time when you look into the mirror? That’s what my parents taught me.”

Priyanka said that she isn’t the kind of person who will ‘wallow in self-pity’ when she’s down.

In an appearance on Dax Shepard’s ‘Armchair Expert’ podcast, Priyanka said that her move to Hollywood was partially fuelled because she felt ‘cornered’ in Bollywood. Her comments created controversy. While some felt that this was a veiled acknowledgement of her rumoured fallout with some major Hindi film personalities, others said that she sounded ungrateful for the platform that the Hindi industry had given her.

“It’s been so long ago. I’ve moved on a long time ago,” she said in a new interview.
