Hundreds of sanitation workers, employed under North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC), will soon get medical treatment, free of cost.
Vijay Prakash Pandey, chairman, NDMC’s Department of Environment Management Services (DEMS), said, ‘The safai karamcharies work in the hardest of conditions and often fall sick and report absent from work, which ultimately affects the cleanliness of the city. Therefore, the corporation has decided to set up medical camps for workers at various places’. Physical check up of the workers will be done at the medical camps and if any worker is found to be seriously unwell, he/she will be referred to the nearest dispensary for treatment. Workers with substance abuse problems will be given special psychological treatment.
