Electronic safety device for women proposed

After the brutal case of Delhi gangrape, the ministry of communications and information technology has come up with an innovative technology based plan working on a wrist-watch model encapsulating the capacity to send emergency signals, to ensure safety of women.
As per the initial proposal, this device will be in the form of a wrist watch, being based on applications which support both Java and Android supported by multilingual voice command system, SMS based SOS and URL based alert and tracking system. Essentially how this device would function - if a person needs help then they would to send a distress signal or message to the nearest police station and alert his friends and family feed into the device.
The Centre for Development of Advanced Computing has been assigned the task to work with private sector players to develop a voice command system which is capable of being sensitive and responsive to different Indian languages and to different accents, said a ministry official.
