Electrical parts worth lakhs destroyed in Nangloi fire

Huge stocks of electrical parts were destroyed in a major fire that broke out at a warehouse in the national capital late on Wednesday. There have been no reports of injuries.

According to the fire officials, the fire was reported from west Delhi's Nangloi area at approximately 10.30 pm on Wednesday. Twenty fire tenders battled for over three hours to check the flames.

'Around 20 fire tenders were rushed to the spot and it took them more than three hours to douse the blaze. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. However, electrical parts worth lakhs were gutted in the fire,' said a fire service official.

'Thick plumes of smoke were billowing out of the building when the fire tenders reached the spot. As of now, it seems the fire broke out owing to a fault in the electrical lines, ' said AK Sharma, chief fire officer.

The ongoing renovation work in the building, added to the challenges faced by the fire-tenders. 'The major problem which our officials faced was that of congestion and the narrow lanes in the Nangloi area. The narrow lanes  made it difficult for the fire engines to reach the spot,' he added.  Though rescue workers evacuated the people and barricaded the area, to ensure smooth operations, the congested lanes made it difficult for them to work. According to the fire officials, electrical short-circuit is suspected to have caused the blaze. The road has been barricaded, and people from nearby buildings have been evacuated as a safety measure. 'It is high time the councillors take note of the hazardous condition of electrical wires in the area,' said a Nangloi resident.
