A 56-year old-woman was killed while her 60-year-old husband received grievous injuries after they were attacked by unidentified men with knives at a children’s park near their house in Outer Delhi’s Prashant Vihar area on Sunday night.
Senior police officers of the Outer district said that personal enmity could be one of the motives behind the gruesome murder.
According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Kanchan Chawla while the injured is Kulbhushan Chawla. Kulbushan owns a cable manufacturing factory in the Prahladpur area while his wife was a homemaker. They are survived by a son.
Investigating officers said that personal enmity could be one of the motives behind the cold blooded murder, hence ruling out the possibility of robbery as cash and other valuables were found to be intact. Meanwhile, they have recovered a blood-stained knife and slippers which could be of the accused.
The incident took place at around 9.30 pm when Kulbhushan and his wife, Kanchan were out for a stroll in a nearby children’s park.
Investigators said that unidentified men came and started stabbing the elderly couple while they were sitting on a bench.
While Kulbushan received multiple stab injuries on his abdomen and slit injuries on his neck, Kanchan’s throat was also found to be slit. Investigators further said that it was only when Kulbhushan started screaming that the accused fled from the spot.
By the time, the locals gathered at the spot, which was dimly lit, they found Kanchan was lying on the ground bleeding profusely.
Police said that one of the locals made a PCR call after which the local police reached the spot and rushed the elderly couple to a nearby hospital. While Kanchan was declared dead on admission, Kulbhushan was immediately shifted to the ICU.
A case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) and 302 (murder) of the IPC has been registered at the Prashant Vihar police station.
Police said that they are scanning CCTV footages of the park, the entry and exit points to establish the identity of the accused. Cops are also questioning the couple’s son, neighbours and relatives.
