Eight city hospitals to have better dengue-care facility

Eight city hospitals will be upgraded for better treatment of dengue patients, the Delhi government announced on Monday, while also directing other city hospitals with platelet separator machines and blood banks to ensure production of platelets round-the-clock.
‘With a view to further facilitate diagnostic, treatment and blood collection facilities for dengue patients, Delhi government has decided the upgradation of eight hospitals across the city where these additional facilities will be made available,’ said Delhi Health Minister A K Walia.
Walia added that at present, there are 33 designated hospitals of the centre and state governments in Delhi that serve as ‘Sentinel Surveillance Centres’ for dengue and other vector-borne diseases.
Walia directed all government and private hospitals equipped with platelet separator machines and blood banks to ensure that their machines produce platelets and allied produce round-the-clock.
The health minister said that if required, manpower would be deployed for continuous production and supply of platelets to dengue patients.
Walia was reviewing the situation with regard to the dengue situation at a high level meeting here with health officials of the local civic body.
‘No patient should be denied supply of platelets and no one should face problems with the availability of platelets in time,’ Walia said.
There are 53 blood banks in Delhi, including 14 in government hospitals.
He directed government hospitals to supply platelets to patients admitted in private hospitals and nursing homes too.
