Union law minister, sitting MP and Congress candidate from the Chandni Chowk parliamentary constituency, Kapil Sibal, faced an embarrassing scenario, as some people threw eggs on him. The incident occurred during his election campaign, when Sibal was addressing a crowd at Bazaar Siram area.
Sources said while he was addressing a public gathering at Chaurasi Ghanta area at about 9:10 pm. A group of unidentified people started pelting eggs on him and at least five eggs landed near him. The persons fled from the spot after the incident. Sibal’s associates denied any knowledge of such incidents.
Bazaar Sitaram is a dominated by Vaishya (Hindu businessmen) community. Few days back, some people had shouted slogans against Sibal in Muslim-dominated Kasabpura area also. The protesters claimed that only after five years, the sitting MP comes over to their localities. These views come to fore, despite Sibal’s repeated claims that he had visited his constituency over 547 times in the last five years. After the incident, Sibal made no reference to the attack.
