ED tight-lipped on Supriyo’s link in Rose Valley case

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has found that a huge amount of “ill-gotten” money was used by Rose Valley firm, accused of mobilising money without SEBI’s approval, to build a resort in Andaman and Nicobar.

Special Director, Eastern Region (ED), Yogesh Gupta said, “Every angle will be probed. We will send a team of officers to Port Blair to investigate the firm’s investment at the archipelago, if needed.”

When asked if ED plans to examine Union Minister Babul Supriyo for his alleged connection with Rose Valley chairman Gautam Kundu, he said: “Let’s not discuss things based on speculations. We don’t see any reason to examine him.”

When asked if West Bengal Transport Minister Madan Mitra can be arrested based on a video footage of an event organised by Saradha founder Sudipta Sen (where Mitra was present), then what prevents them from examining Supriyo, the Special Director said: “So far, there is no plan to question him.” Supriyo came under controversy after a 10-minute video, featuring him at the inauguration of a hotel owned Rose Valley, went public.

Special Director, Eastern Region is known as one of the efficient officers of the ED. He has handled some sensitive cases, including that of Harshad Mehta, Ketan Parekh and the Gujarat riots. However, he refused to comment on Supriyo’s questioning.

Meanwhile, the Calcutta High Court has asked the ED to complete its probe against Rose Valley in three months. The court also upheld the ED’s decision to freeze bank accounts of the Rose Valley group.
