EC to declare dates for polls in 5 states today!

The Election Commission of India, busy in preparing for state assembly elections in five states going to polls this year, likely to announce the poll dates for the same on Friday. With the announcement of poll schedules for these states, the Model Code of Conduct will come into effect immediately.
The EC sources said that dates for the election in five states – Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram – likely to be announced on Friday and EC will issue the notification in this regard on the same day. Sources said that the poll pannel has finished all the required work for smooth conduct of assembly elections in these states and it was just a matter of time for the official announcement.
Sources in the poll panel said that EC officials were discussing various dates for these states keeping in mind the availability of security forces and while there could be single phase poll for most of the states going to polls, Chhattisgrah could have two-phase lection.
Sources said that the EC has already consulted the Ministry of Home Affairs for deployment of central forces and has asked for large number of troops for of Chhattisgarh, which is a Naxal-affected state.
Sources also said that the EC would put up an effective mechanism in place, including a round-the-clock monitoring system, to check cases of paid news.
