EC orders filing of FIR over BJP’s controversial ad

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is now in trouble for its attempt to woo ‘their’ voters in the name of cow. The issue has put the party in a spot after the Election Commission on Wednesday ordered filing an FIR against BJP for issuing the controversial advertisement in Bihar-based newspapers.

Taking a strong note of the advertisement, which has criticised Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad commenting on consumption of cow meat, the poll panel has asked all political parties not to publish advertisements in newspapers of Bihar on Thursday without prior certification from the poll body.

Bihar will go for the polls for the fifth and last phase on Thursday. The polling began on
October 12.

The commission’s order came after JD (U) and Congress approached it over BJP’s advertisements in Wednesday’s edition of newspapers. Sources said that the poll panel has asked the parties to take a pre-certification of political advertisements from its Media Certification and Monitoring Committee.

However, unfazed by the EC diktat, the BJP has firmly defended the ad and its contents. Commenting on the issue, senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi said, “There is nothing wrong in our advertisement on beef issue and asking the Chief Minister to break his silence on controversial remarks made by the RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, his colleague Raghuvansh Prasad Singh and Karnataka Chief Minister
S Siddaramaiah.”

While the ‘Grand Alliance’ has dubbed the move as an outcome of BJP’s growing discomfort.  Talking to Millennium Post, JDU’s spokesperson KC Tyagi said, “The ads of BJP clearly show that they are very insecure and have lost the game. That’s why such ads and statements are coming out from their side.”

Taking a jibe at top BJP leaders, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said, “Have these ads in Bihar been given by BJP’s fringe elements? Or by BJP top brass?” The Delhi CM has also shared the ad on his Twitter handle.
