The Election Commission is likely to be announce the poll dates for the five poll-bound states on 5 October.
The tenure of the assemblies of Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh and Mizoram are due to expire this year. According to sources in the Delhi electoral office, the national capital is likely to go to polls on 25 or 26 November.
The Delhi electoral office is gearing up to launch an awareness campaign from 6 October as part of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation drive to maximise enrollment and encourage voting.
The EC’s expenditure manual clearly states that a list of star campaigners will have to be submitted to the chief electoral officer and the Election Commission within seven days of an election’s notification. The move aims to ensure that candidates do not cross the Rs 14 lakh limit set for campaigning for each candidate.
