EC issues notification for 1st phase of Bihar polls

The Election Commission on Wednesday issued notification for the first phase of elections to the Bihar Assembly. A total of 49 Assembly seats would witness elections in the first phase on October 12. <g data-gr-id="14">Last</g> date for filing of nominations for <g data-gr-id="15">first</g> phase of elections was September 23.
Two nominations were filed on the opening day. Assembly elections in Bihar would be fought in five phases between October 12 and November 5 in a high-stakes battle, seen as a major popularity test for the NDA spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and incumbent Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, who was in alliance with the RJD and the Congress.
