Easy win for Spain to start Euro 2016 campaign

Spain put the ghosts of their FIFA World Cup failure and a recent lack of goals behind them with an easy 5-1 win at home to a weak Macedonia side in the Ciudad de Valencia Stadium. Goals from Sergio Ramos, Pablo Alcazar, Sergio Busquets, David Silva and Pedro Rodriguez helped Spain record a massive win Monday, reports Xinhua.

Sergio Ramos scored from the penalty spot with a chipped finish after a foul on David Silva, after just 16 minutes, while Paco Alcazar doubled the lead a minute later. Agim Ibrami pulled a goal back from the penalty spot after 28 minutes after Juanfran committed a foul. Despite the goal Spain were in control and David Silva was close to a third goal on the stroke of halftime only to see his shot well saved by Tomislav Pacovski. Pacovski’s efforts were in vain, as Busquets saw a shot deflected past the Macedonia keeper in the second minute of injury time and David Silva made it 4-1 with a low shot five minutes after halftime.

Spain controlled the ball after that, but failed to turn possession into clear chances apart from a shot from Cesc Fabregas that hit the crossbar. Spain coach Vicente del Bosque introduced Barca youngster Munir with 12 minutes remaining in a move that assure the 19-year-old has his international future with Spain and not Morocco and Pedro rounded off a positive night for Spain with the fifth goal of the match.
