Facing flak for not paying heed to the needs of sanitation workers (safai karmis) that triggered serious garbage pile-up problems in East Delhi area, leaders of the BJP-ruled EDMC said when the Corporation was trifurcated by the then Chief Minister, there was no opportunity to consider the expenditure and type of localities and the sources of revenue that would come under the said Corporation.
Hence, the Congress and the AAP governments which stopped a huge amount of money are equally responsible for the present state of the civic body.
Chairman Standing Committee Jitendra Chaudhary said that the Delhi government should come out of politics and help the workers to come out of the situation as one third of the population live in the Trans-Yamuna region. He added that a special package should be released to EDMC immediately.
“The Delhi government owes Rs 4928.76 crore to the East Corporation and the money should be released immediately,” said Chaudhary.
Mayor of East Delhi, Satya Sharma said it is the style of functioning of the Delhi government which has compelled “our staff to go on strike to seek their hard-earned salaries.”
She added that it is a clear-cut lie that they have released the fund for salary.
“The fund released is out of our due grant-in-aid under non-plan expenditure.”
The Mayor also informed that on Monday evening the senior functionaries of the Corporation met Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia but there was no satisfactory assurance on the issue.
