Government headhunter Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB) on Monday selected Durgapur Steel Plant’s CEO P K Singh for the top post at domestic steel giant SAIL. “PESB recommended the following name for the post of Chairman, Steel Authority Of India Ltd (SAIL)-P K Singh,” it said in a notification.
Singh took over as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Durgapur Steel Plant in 2012. Earlier in July, he was given the additional charge of CEO of IISCO Steel Plant, Burnpur (West Bengal). An alumnus of IIT-Roorkee, he started his career in SAIL at its Bokaro Steel Plant in 1980.
Singh also worked in IISCO Steel Plant, Durgapur Steel Plant and Bokaro Steel Plant. In June, the Maharatna PSU had said that C S Verma had relinquished the charge as Chairman and Managing Director on completion of his tenure and Steel Secretary Rakesh Singh has assumed the charge till a regular chief is appointed.
Verma was appointed Chairman and Managing Director of the public sector undertaking (PSU) for a five-year term in June 2010 by previous UPA government and was eligible for an extension till he attained the superannuation age of 60 years in September 2019.
A K Jha to take additional charge of NTPC CMD’s post
After refusing extension to Arup Roy Choudhury as Chairman and Managing Director of NTPC, the government on Monday gave additional charge of this post to the state-run power major’s Director (Technical) A K Jha for three months from September 1. A search committee is currently looking for a full-time CMD for NTPC. “The government has decided to give additional charge of the post of Chairman and Managing Director to A K Jha who is at present Director (Technical) of the company,” a senior official said.
The official further said that the government decided to make this arrangement because a search committee headed by Power Secretary P K Pujari is in the process of shortlisting the suitable candidates for the post. Arup Roy Choudhury retired from his services on Monday, after he was denied an extension by the government. 58-year-old Choudhury was appointed as head of India’s largest power producer by the UPA government in September 2010 for five years term, which was extendable till he attains 60 years of age, i.e. the age of retirement. The search committee will <g data-gr-id="81">sent</g> the list of shortlisted suitable candidates for the post to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet for the final call.
