Dwarka to get super specialty hospital in 3 years

Delhi government’s Public Works Department is to start the construction work of a 700 bed capacity Indira Gandhi Hospital in Dwarka. The proposal was conceptualised in 1994-95, but could not take off even after clearance from the previous Congress govt.

‘All the necessary formalities have been completed and the work is likely to start in September this year,’  said Arun Baroka, Principal Secretary (PWD).

He further informed that the hospital would be ready by March, 2017.  He also said the hospital would cater to the residents of West, North-West Delhi and adjoining districts. On 6 June, 2013, the Delhi Cabinet gave its approval for the second time for the hospital and given an estimate of Rs 641.55 crore.

Baroka mentioned the cost at Rs 566 crore. The hospital shall be constructed on a 60,000 sqm area. A part of the area has been kept reserved for a medical college to be established in future. The hospital is targetted to be commissioned within three years. It would provide round-the-clock emergency services, maternity services, surgical facilities, OPD, general ward block, air-conditioned special ward block, full super-specialty services and teaching units.

Baroka said with the commissioning of 700-bed super-specialty hospital, healthcare needs of around five lakh residents of Dwarka and adjoining areas would be taken care of.

He further informed that there is provision of 700 beds excluding 123 in emergency, ICU & day care services, along with a provision of 13 operation theatres. It has been designed keeping in mind the latest norms of Medical Counsel of India & other bodies.
