DUTA writes to Home Ministry against Delhi police

Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) has written letter to the Home Ministry claiming that Delhi police had conducted an unwarranted raid on the residence of their colleague, G N Saibaba.

Nandita Narain, newly-elected president of DUTA, has written a letter to Sushil Kumar Shinde, home minister, claiming that on 12 September, a contingent of 50 policemen drawn from Maharashtra police force, Delhi police special cell and the Maurice Nagar Thana, raided the residence of G N Saibaba, assistant professor in English at Ram Lal Anand College. He was arrested for his alleged links to Hem Mishra, a JNU student arrested in Maharashtra, over alleged links with Naxals.

According to the letter Saibaba was not allowed to talk to his lawyer or his colleagues to ensure that the ‘investigation’ would be fair and transparent. DUTA claimed that during the entire period, his family was kept captive and some were individually prevented from making or receiving calls. The police locked them into various rooms of the house for long periods of time.’
