The Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) welcomed a hike in the Delhi governments’ Budgetary expenditure on education for the year 2016-17 and demanded to revoke the suspension of 5 per cent grant contribution to its colleges to clear pension and other backlogs.
“We welcome the hike in the Delhi government’s Budgetary expenditure on education. We hope this will percolate down to the higher education too. Delhi government must release its five per cent contribution along with the backlog to the 16 Delhi government DU colleges,” a DUTA statement reads. “The situation is alarming as UGC has already decided to cut five per cent from its grant to the colleges in case the management does not pay its mandated five per cent share. With increased spending on teachers training, we also demand to resume the travel grant for the college teachers for participating in seminars, conferences, workshops, etc abroad,” said Rajesh Jha, joint secretary of DUTA. The teachers’ association has been criticising the Union Budget 2016-17 for introducing a cut for higher education.
