Despite assurance from the Ministry of Human Resource and Development (MHRD), the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) in its second General Body Meeting held on Thursday at Ramjas College reiterated its stand to contest the University Grant Commission’s notification, till the time it is not taken back.
The teachers are opposing the notification, which increased the workload of assistant professors from 16 hours of ‘direct teaching’ to 24 hours per week. For associate professors, it went up from 14 to 22 hours per week.
The DU teachers, who have already boycotted the evaluation process in the university have given a call for the continuation of protest against the Commission’s notification.
The decision was taken at the General Body meeting of the DUTA on Thursday. In a historic protest gathering against the UGC notification, almost 4,000 DU teachers and scholars gathered at the DU’s Ramjas College.
Protesting teachers termed the MHRD’s call for the deliberation on the matter related to the notification as diversionary tactics of the Ministry.
“DU teachers will continue their protest and will not let the diktat of UGC or HRD Ministry,” Rajesh Jha, Joint Secretary (JC) of DUTA and leader of Academics for Action and Development (AAD) said, adding DUTA has decided to extend evaluation boycott.
The teachers wing linked to all the political parties on campus including Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) affiliated National Democratic Teachers Front (NDTF) and Left aligned group ‘Democratic Teachers Front’ have already launched protest against the notification. The protest is likely to delay the results for the Undergraduate examination.
