DUTA meets HRD minister, demands removal of DU VC

Teachers associated with Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) also staged protest at the Jantar Mantar here, before meeting Irani to submit their memorandum of demands.

The memorandum, presented by a delegation led by DUTA president Nandita Narain, included withdrawal of the UGC Code of Conduct, institution of visitorial Inquiry into alleged misgovernance and irregularities, reversal of ‘vindictive measures’ by the VC against teachers in the matters of pension and promotions and starting of regular permanent recruitment for the 4,700 vacant teaching posts with correct reservation roster.

‘The HRD minister responded positively and promised to give serious consideration to all the issues raised in the memorandum. In particular, she emphasised the determination of the ministry to expedite the process of making permanent appointment of teachers and non-teaching staff,’ Narain said.

Alleging vindictiveness by the VC, a member of the Delhi University executive council, Abha Dev Habib said, ‘There have been incidents when students who asked for re-evaluation of their papers were denied their request because the VC claimed that they were involved in the FYUP protests against him.’
