DUTA demands presidential inquiry against VC Dinesh Singh

The teachers’ association of Delhi University (DUTA) has demanded presidential inquiry against DU Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh for various financial, administrative and academic irregularities. The President of Indian is the visitor of Delhi University.

In a press conference held on Tuesday, DUTA president Nandita Narain said ‘the manner in which the VC has been working during his tenure has propelled the university into many crises. He has tarnished its prestige and academic credibility, as well as undermined its accountability.’

DUTA president also charged the VC for violating the rules of law many times in order to push his decisions on administrative and academic matters through. ‘He has subverted statutory processes through which the rules are implemented and executed. He consistently misused his emergency powers to amend university’s statutes and ordinances. He took arbitrary decisions on routine matters related to courses of study, tenure and processes of teaching and administrative appointments,’ said Nandita added.

She further added that the VC deliberately put on hold appointment of teachers. ‘Despite UGS’s repeated reminders, no steps were taken for fresh appointments,’ said Narain.
