DUTA demands ‘impartial probe’ in KMC corruption case

The teachers’ body, while holding a demonstration against the principal, also sought his suspension from the post till the time probe committee submits its report in the matter that involves misappropriation to the tune of Rs 1.5 crore.

Ever since the allegations have come to light, the staff association in Kirori Mal College has also been agitating for Gupta’s removal.

‘Despite repeated reminders from the University and the UGC, directing it to take formal cognizance of the matter, the college governing body has not place the matter on its meeting agenda.

Meanwhile, the Court has also observed that a case for investigations into the allegations of ‘cheating and forgery’ exists and has accordingly directed the local Maurice Nagar Police Station to file an FIR against SP Gupta’, read the official statement from DUTA.

A delegation of DUTA office bearers met members of the freshly-reconstituted governing body and appealed them ‘to take the demand for inquiry and suspension of the acting principal seriously’. It also alleged that private security men of SP Gupta tried to forcibly evict the DUTA members from college premises. ‘However, this shameful ploy did not work and the governing body members were forced to allow us to represent our demands’, the statement said. The teachers’ delegation has threatened to intensify its protest in future if the governing body tries to shield Gupta.

SP Gupta, along with four others, are accused of fraudulently transferring Rs 1.50 crore from the college account to a private account in the name of holding the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) examination. The other officials named in the police report are: college bursar JP Mahajan, former governing body chairman Baleshwar Rai, college treasurer Sheoraj Singh and a chartered accountant Rajinder Mann.

According to the documents available with Millennium Post, vice-chancellor Dinesh Singh had knowledge of the whole matter and preferred to ignore it.

It is also believed that Gupta’s own daughter had appeared for the NET exam and he has been accused of manipulating the seating arrangements to benefit her. ‘While the UGC has found her ineligible, Gupta manipulated the scrutiny process and ensured that she was allowed to sit for the exam’, the DUTA alleged.
