Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) and Daulat Ram College Staff Association (DRCTA) on Monday demonstrated in front of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office to raise the issue of Daulat Ram College’s (DRC) Governing Body’s alleged mismanagement and interference in day-to-day functioning of the college.
Earlier on August 6, the staff association of DRC and students had protested in the college. “The GB is completely indifferent towards the proper functioning of the institute. The college lacks proper infrastructure and even basic facilities like drinking water and toilets,” said a member of DRCTA.
However, the administration denied the allegations saying: “These accusations are completely rubbish. The GB is conscious of its duties and functions and it has been doing it properly,” said Suneeta Sudarshan, chairperson of DRC College.
While the DUTA representatives were protesting at the VC’s office, DU student union president and his associates allegedly manhandled the protesters and used inappropriate language.
“The DUTA strongly condemns the behaviour of the DUSU president, Satender Awana, who along with his associates, manhandled a group of teachers and used most objectionable language against the DUTA president, joint secretary, former president and others who were accompanying a delegation of the Daulat Ram Staff Association and students of Daulat Ram College who were demonstrating in front of the V-C’s office in support of their demands,” said a DUTA statement.
However, Awana denied saying: “We didn’t use any foul language. We were only there to protest against the fee hike in DRC. But the teachers who were there were ideologically misguiding the students. So, we raised slogans against them.”
