DUSU aspirants to take over community air waves, website

Delhi University Community Radio is all set to pack in a punch with vice-chancellor Dinesh Singh giving those contesting the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) elections an opportunity to attract voters by addressing them through the Delhi University Community Radio and the university website.

Candidates have been allowed to release their poll manifestoes and plan of action on air and the university portal.

DUSU elections are scheduled to be held on 13 September and the university, under the guidance of the vice-chancellor, has made all necessary arrangements for conducting peaceful and transparent elections.

The rules of the students union elections, as per the Lyngdoh Committee Report, the important dates and code of conduct, have been put on the university website. The names of the contestants have also been announced.

‘To help students make an informed choice, candidates have been given an opportunity to address the voters on the Delhi University Community Radio and the website,’ said Ashok Vohra, chief election officer for DUSU.

Vohra asked students to participate in the elections and vote without fear, coercion, prejudice and temptation of any kind. ‘While selecting the candidate of your choice you should keep in mind that you should choose someone who can truly represent you in the decision-making bodies of the university,’ he said.
