DU’s DACEE dept to adopt five villages as part of ‘Clean India’ campaign

Taking the recently-launched Clean India Campaign forward, the Department of Adult Continuing Education and Extension (DACEE) of Delhi University will adopt cluster of villages in Delhi.

The DACEE will launch slew of programmes in these villages with its main focus on cleanliness.
‘We are going to adopt five villages -Majra Dabas, Jatkhore, Sevapuri, Timarpur and Nandnagri in the outskirts of north Delhi. We will educate people about all components of cleanliness including waste management, health and hygiene,’ said Rajesh, head of the department.

He further said that the villagers and 200 students volunteers will be trained by of Sulabh International.

‘There would be one activity in each village twice or thrice a month where the local people would be involved and trained to keep their surroundings clean. All the community people and stakeholders will be involved in a planned manner so as to make it self-sustainable,’ he added.

Besides adopting cluster of villages , the department has also come up with the concept of ‘certified trained volunteers’.

Rajesh said ‘We will train at least 200 undergraduate and post graduate students in one year as certified trained volunteers. The students will receive one week’s training, which will cover issues like sanitation, hygiene, safety, proper procedure for disposal of waste material, nutrition, innovations and leadership including others. It will be in technical consultations with field practitioners and related institutions.’

He further the students will work in the villages as a part of their training, sensitizing people and promoting the Clean India campaign.

‘These certified trained volunteers would be the peer educators in their respective colleges, departments, communities, society and family’, Rajesh said.
