Two youths allegedly snatched money and sandwiches from a delivery boy of a popular eatery in south Delhi on Tuesday. The accused were later arrested by the Delhi Police.
When a call to the police control room was made by the delivery boy, a team reached the spot and recovered empty packets in which the sandwiches were delivered from the crime spot, leading them to believe that the culprits intended to have the snacks for free and only chanced upon the cash.
After the arrests of the accused, it was learnt that they were aware of the fact that delivery boys generally carry some cash with them; accordingly they had planned to order food first to rob him off.
The delivery boy was employed at a food outlet in Mehrauli. The outlet received a delivery order from a mobile number at around 8.15 pm on Tuesday after which its delivery boy, identified as Subhajit, a resident of Rajpur Khurd, set out with the order.
When an employee of the eatery had asked for the address, the caller requested that the delivery boy to be sent near a hospital in Maidangarhi area of Mehrauli from where the caller would collect the order. Subhajit did accordingly. He delivered the order near the hospital that wore a deserted look.
The duo collected the order and when Subhajit took out his wallet to return the change, one of the accused snatched it away and both fled the spot. The wallet contained about Rs 7,000.
