Dumper owner held for cop’s murder

A day after the sand mafia killed a police officer posted on a barricade in Faridabad, sources revealed to Millennium Post that the owner of the dumper has been detained by the Haryana Police. They, however, are reportedly finding it difficult to book him due to political pressure.
While Abhe Kumar, DCP [Central] remained unavailable for comments, ACP Darshan Mallik refused to say anything. Meanwhile, Haryana Police cremated the victim, constable Mahavir Singh [46] with honours and Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for his family. Haryana’s Director General of Police Ranjiv Dalal also announced a job for a member of the family of the deceased.
In the early hours of Monday during a regular police barricading, a speeding dumper rammed into the barricade, hitting and killing Mahavir Singh. He died on the spot. A Santro car was seen along with the dumper, whose driver Rajpal was alleged to be the owner of that dumper. But he managed to escape.The dumper was being driven by one Pappu, who has been arrested.
After hitting the constable, the dumper collided with a Maruti van. Another constable who was following him nabbed Pappu soon after he lost the control. The driver accepted that he was instructed by a local sand mafia operator to cross all barriers that came his way.
Contracts of sand mining have not been given in Faridabad for the last two years. That is why these activities are carried out illegally. Due to the fear of being apprehended by the cops, drivers are instructed to drive their dumpers at high speed. Over a period of time, many incidents have come to light were innocent people were killed by the speeding dumpers.
The family members of Singh are in shock, as they have lost the only bread-winner of their family. Singh, a resident of Dubbal Dhan village in the Jhajjar district of Haryana, is survived by wife and two young children. He joined the police after serving the Indian Army for 16 years.
