DU teachers trade charges over ad hoc appointments

A large number of ad hoc and temporary teachers demonstrated against the Delhi University Teachers Association (DUTA) governing body meeting (GBM) and their leadership.
Teachers alleged that DUTA is trying to stall the process of permanent appointment because of vested interests. The protests came after some alleged DUTA members approached the court seeking a stay on the process of giving permanent posts to these teachers. ‘After a long period of eight years, Delhi University has started the process of permanent appointments, I don’t know why DUTA is approaching the court,’ assistant professor Deepak Lal said.
‘We demand speeding up of the process of permanent appointments and filling up of all the 4,000 permanent positions in the departments and colleges of Delhi University,’ Kujur added.
However, defending DUTA decision, a member of the association said, ‘We condemn the varsity administration for backlog in reservation and incorrectly implementing the 200-point reservation roster. We officially did not ask anybody to go to court.’
